Synopsis

Mindfulness in sports is the process of developing the ability of athletes to direct their attention to instant experiences and to approach events with awareness in an impartial way. This skill helps athletes to better understand themselves, their bodies and minds and to balance them emotionally, mentally and physically. Mindfulness practices create a number of positive effects on athletes. First, it helps athletes achieve a calmer and more focused state of mind by reducing anxiety and stress levels. Thus, athletes can perform better even under pressure. In addition, mindfulness is effective in improving the mental skills of athletes. Contributes to the strengthening of skills such as focus, refocus, imagery, mental rehearsal and competition planning. Athletes manage their attention better, develop more effective strategies for coping with stressful situations, and better optimize their performance. Mindfulness plays an important role in reducing anxiety and stress, improving mental skills and increasing flow experience in athletes. For this reason, it is thought that including mindfulness practices in sports training and performance development programs can contribute to the development of athletes as healthier, more balanced and superior performance individuals.
