Synopsis

Good nutrition is crucial to keeping current and future generations healthy for life. A healthy diet helps children grow and develop properly and reduces the risk of chronic disease. Adults who eat healthy live longer and have a lower risk of obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and some cancers.

Healthy eating can help people with chronic diseases manage these conditions and avoid complications. The popularity of vegetarian diets continues to grow as they can reduce the risks of heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. The reasons for following a vegetarian diet vary, but in general, the dietary system starts with not consuming red meat and can be referred to by different terms, such as fish, poultry, milk, eggs or cheese.

Following a pescatarian diet contains high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids, which can help fight against cancer, diabetes and obesity. It is therefore thought that those who follow a pescatarian diet have health benefits that may increase compared to a vegetarian diet.  In this study, the general characteristics of the pescetarian diet and its effects on human health were examined.
