Since complications, which are frequently seen in the wound healing process, increase the morbidity and mortality rates, it is important that the wound heals without any problems. A chronic wound is defined as a wound in which anatomical or functional healing does not occur in a three-month period. Despite technological developments, the treatment and care of chronic wounds, which are also defined as non-healing wounds, continue to be an important problem. In addition to the cost, chronic wounds negatively affect the health, quality of life, ability to work, protect the home, socialize and participate in society in an efficient and meaningful way, and can cause morbidities and loss of life. For this reason, it is important to treat chronic wounds and prevent complications associated with chronic wounds. The increase in the incidence of chronic wounds in parallel with the prolongation of life expectancy from birth and the increase in obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases has brought the use of methods different from standard traditional treatments in the treatment and care of these wounds. Today, many different methods are used in the treatment and care of chronic wounds to remove necrotic or infected tissue from the wound, in addition to drug therapy. One of these approaches is maggot therapy, or larval therapy, which has been used for centuries and involves applying live greenfly larvae to wounds.
