Synopsis

People's need for housing is one of the basic needs, such as their need to eat and drink. The issue of shelter goes far beyond the need for a closed space to maintain body temperature. The shelter needed is a house that has healthy conditions, establishes safety, and allows people to establish social relationships by expressing themselves through space. The need for housing is a right, and meeting this right is emphasized as a frequently emphasized requirement in international agreements. The inability to meet the housing requirement points to the housing problem. The inability to solve the housing problem for a long time leads to a housing crisis. In this study, it is aimed to explain the phenomenon of housing crisis. For this purpose, a literature review was conducted to examine how the housing crisis took shape around the world and what this crisis caused. The concept of housing is a concept that is in contact with many fields and disciplines. The housing crisis, which is also a multidimensional phenomenon, was evaluated in this study by considering its financial and social dimensions. This assessment is compatible with the multifaceted definition of needs contained in the right to housing. Thus, it becomes more meaningful to focus on the various methods and tools developed for the solution of the housing crisis, which are examined in the last part of the study. It is hoped that the study will contribute to housing policy makers and practitioners as well as researchers.
