Synopsis

China, which carries out a global power competition with the USA in every field, has described its political problems as internal affairs and tried to prevent other countries from being involved in these issues with their discourse and actions. At this point, the Taiwan issue, which especially has come to the fore and is frequently on the agenda in global politics, has continued to be an important "test" in Chinese foreign policy. Taiwan, which has the potential to escalate the tension between the USA and China, has remained on the agenda for many years within the framework of the One China policy for China. China's declaration that it will sometimes resort to hard power or military options for Taiwan in line with the One China goal also shows the seriousness of the problem. The Taiwan problem, which has been going on since the establishment of China, has often become a current issue in the same way during the Xi Jinping era. As one of China's most important leaders, there is a significant expectation that Xi will fully resolve the Taiwan issue. It has been seen that Xi's Taiwan policy has taken into account China's military power, its competition with the United States, Taiwan's economic weight and China's global image. In the study, firstly, the historical process of the One China policy and the discourses of Chinese leaders about the policy, and in the next section, the developments in this period are discussed by focusing on the Xi period. In the study, it is emphasized that the One China policy has caused unresolved crises in Chinese foreign policy rather than contributing to China politically. In this context, it has been stated that China's problems will continue unless it solves its long-standing problems such as Taiwan, that is, unless it transforms the One China discourse into action, especially in this period when China has a strong leader like Xi.
