Synopsis

In the industrial plants, motors are used to convert electrical energy to circular motion. In practice, there are many kinds of electric motors. However, inside of electric motor types that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy the most robust, cheapest, most widely used motors and minimal maintenance requirement are induction motors.

In this study, a laboratory type testing set up was developed that calculates the equivalent circuit parameters of tree phase induction motors, implements performance and loading analysis, confirms tag values, finds motor efficiency according to IEC 34-2 and IEEE 122-B standards.

In the testing set up, 3-phase currents and voltages, speed, torque and temperature values of induction motor measured by using related sensors with the help of data acquisition card (DAQ), transferred to the computer. Calculation of parameters was obtained from experimental data, efficiency was determined, performance curves were drawn and the tag data was verified by the prepared Labview program using graphical user interface.

Values obtained in the test set up for the 2.2 kW 6-poles, 3 kW 2-poles and 4 kW 4-poles induction motors with the frame size of 100 and 112 were used for calculation of motor equivalent circuit parameters. These results were found to be compatible with the motor tag values.
