Synopsis

As the human population in the world increases day by day, the electrical energy used also increases. Today, in many countries and university campuses that aim to use clean energy, photovoltaic (PV) systems are used to save a lot of energy and reduce gas emissions that harm the environment. In parallel with the decreases in initial investment costs in the last quarter century, there is a rapidly increasing use of PV systems. PV systems are widely used in many areas such as university lighting system, three-phase inverters, irrigation systems, farm houses, off-grid buildings, space vehicles, and military applications. However, power quality disturbances such as harmonics, voltage sags and voltage swells occur in the electrical energy produced with system designs, technological developments and environmental factors. The resulting disturbances cause losses in power at the output of the PV power system. In this study, a current control method consisting of Perturb & Observe (P&O) and DQ algorithm is proposed in order to obtain maximum power from the PV inverter system, reduce the disturbances in the obtained voltage and current, and transfer the obtained power to the AC grid. The reference current signal used in grid-connected inverter is obtained from the P&O algorithm, and the PWM signals of the active switches used in the power system are produced using the synchronous DQ algorithm. Thus, the power obtained in the inverter is controlled by the proposed method. The MPP tracking success of the proposed method is improved by combining the P&O algorithm and the DQ algorithm. A simulation study of a three-phase grid-connected inverter with variable irradiance PV fed are carried out using the MATLAB/Simulink program, and the accuracy of the method was tested by performing power efficiency and harmonics analysis in the simulated system. From the results obtained using the proposed current control method, it is seen that the total harmonic distortion value in the network current is 2.74%. This value is within the range of values in harmonic standards.
