Synopsis

Psychological factors have a great impact on improving performance in athletes and many studies continue to be conducted in this field. Anxiety is a state of fear that occurs in an individual, is caused by the individual, and has an unknown cause. Anxiety can have a significant impact on people's physical health and can also reduce their quality of life. It can be seen that anxiety, which usually affects the outcome of the competition negatively, sometimes affects it positively. Athletes and coaches especially see performance anxiety as one of the most important factors that can affect the outcome of a sports competition. Sometimes Anxiety appears as a driving force and has positive effects on some athletes and the anxious athlete performs well. Researchers examining the effects of anxiety on performance have not been able to reach a conclusion that everyone agrees on between anxiety and performance. In this context, it is difficult to interpret studies on anxiety and performance, as they often yield different results. In this study, anxiety in sports and sports performance were examined in the light of the literature.
