Evaluation of Financial Performance of Textile Companies Traded in Borsa Istanbul: Entropy Based WASPAS Method

Synopsis

The textile industry is one of the largest industries in the world, alongside agriculture, also provides employment to many people. Evaluating the performance of textile enterprises provides benefits to managers in future business decisions. The aim of the study is to provide information to textile business managers at the point of decision-making. Financial performance data of textile companies traded in Borsa Istanbul were taken from the Public Disclosure Platform, weighted with the Entropy method, one of the MCDM methods, and ranked with the WASPAS method. According to the findings obtained, they are listed as K8>K1>K3>K2, K4, K5>K6, K7 according to their importance as a result of criterion weighting with the Entropy method. The criteria are listed as cost of goods sold, current ratio, leverage ratio, cash ratio, inventory turnover ratio, equity turnover ratio, return on equity and net profit margin. The ranking of the financial performances of textile enterprises is A2>A1>A5>A3>A6>A7>A4>A8, A9 and A10. As a result of the ranking, it is seen that textile businesses with high cost of goods sold, current ratio and leverage ratios are at the top of the rankings. With the results obtained from the study, findings were obtained about the financial performance of companies operating in the textile sector. In order to ensure competitive advantage in businesses, financial performance ratios must be taken into consideration.
