Synopsis

The first definition of integrated approach was made in the first quarter of 1900s. The integrated approach is defined as a research model in which the concepts and skills to be gained in the education process or the elements of multiple disciplines are used together, consisting of common themes or interdisciplinary connections. By employing multiple disciplines, students will be able to solve problems more easily by transferring information with the rich learning experiences they have when they need it. Considering the other definitions, it can be presented as another detail that draws attention to the fact that appropriate associations should be made for the knowledge, skills and behaviours desired to be gained by individuals. When the studies conducted to integrate disciplines are examined, it is possible to come across different integration patterns in the literature. For example, in the 1980-90s, the concept of "unified/integrated curriculum" was replaced by concepts such as interdisciplinary, transitional disciplines, multiple disciplines as a result of the different methods of combining disciplines. It is possible to define the curriculum based on integrated teaching approach as the process of creating a new whole by consciously establishing a relationship with multiple disciplines in the centre of a theme, subject, concept or a problem situation. When each of the interdisciplinary models is examined, it is thought that a correct integration should be made in order for a common opinion quality to serve the purpose. As a result of the literature review, it is seen that the emerging qualities aim to enable students to have and develop problem solving skills independently of each other and to increase their academic success. There are many positive aspects of applying the integrated approach, which includes many options in organising educational situations and is important for the development of educational environments. Families, students, teachers and school administration can work as a team from time to time with the selection of themes from the programming to the completion of the lessons.
