People's lives are constantly changing and evolving due to technological advancements. With the development of technology, production and consumption activities are increasing every day, and the human population is growing. Thanks to technology, people are able to lead a more comfortable and convenient life. Along with individuals, families, and societies are also affected by technological advancements. Social life and social relationships are transforming, and generational differences are deepening. The effects of technology are seen in every aspect of life, but in recent times, the most significant change and transformation have occurred in the field of communication. Internet has been added to the existing means of communication such as phones, radio, and television. Computers, smartphones, and other smart devices actively using the internet have greatly facilitated communication and life. However, there are also negative effects of the internet. In this study, the effects of technology use on family life and social relationships have been discussed within a theoretical framework. Additionally, the effects of technology addiction on family relationships have been evaluated.

According to the study, the positive effects of technology on family life were observed with the introduction of machines. Cleaning tools, ovens, and lighting equipment used in homes have made family members more comfortable. However, rapidly advancing communication technologies in recent times have brought individualism to the forefront in family relationships and weakened the emotional relationships between parents and children. With the influence of the internet and social media, individuals' family, kinship, and friendship relationships have become virtual. Parents have struggled to protect their children from the negative effects of the internet and social media. Children and adolescents have faced problems such as misinformation, academic failure, internet and smartphone addiction, meeting dangerous people, cyberbullying, pedophilia, pornography, depression, and loneliness. Due to the influence of social media, negative emotions and behaviors such as jealousy, insecurity, and spouse surveillance have increased between spouses. As a result, the risk of family breakdown has increased.
