Synopsis

Today industries face crises depending on many reasons such as globalization effects, technological developments and increasing competition. One of the most effected industries from the crises experienced is the tourism industry, which has an important share in global economy. In addition to this, intense competition in the industry, too much external environmental interaction and supply-demand precision may enhance crises’ effects on the tourism industry. In this context, when crises in tourism are examined, it is seen that various crises have an impact on tourism ranging from epidemics to natural disasters, or from acts of terrorism to mobility of currency exchange. When environmental interactions of the tourism industry are taken into consideration, it emerges as a notable issue about how effective crises are for the industry and its shareholders. In this regard, the subject of this study is to determine the effects of crises on tourism. Within the scope of the study, crises’ effects on tourism are addressed and by categorizing crises experienced in tourism they are tried to be examined with cases. The study has been carried out specifically in terms of both world tourism and Turkey tourism industry. The study is considered to be a real guide at the point of preventive measures to be taken in the face of possible crises in the tourism industry.
