Control of labor pain and prevention of suffering are primary concerns of clinicians and their clients.Therefore, there are many non-pharmacological approaches used to relieve pain and reduce suffering during birth.One of these is the aromatherapy approach. Aromatherapy is "the branch of science used to benefit from the therapeutic properties of highly concentrated essential oils or essences distilled from plants."Although aromatherapy seems to be beneficial in reducing anxiety and pain during birth, the strength of clinical evidence is not sufficient and more clinical studies are needed.
