Synopsis

After the Dandanakan war of the Great Seljuk Empire in 1040, we see that the foreign policy of the State was shaped after the congress convened in Merv. It is especially important in that it shows that the direction of the state turned to the west, even Tugrul Bey, who became the head of the state as the Sultan, willingly undertook the conquest of the west. In this way, the efforts and success of the Seljuk sultans to eliminate the political and religious turmoil, especially in the Islamic World, brought the Seljuk sultans' dominance in the Middle East. The goal of seizing Iraq, Syria, Palestine and Egypt, which is an important element of the Western Policy of Tugrul Bey and the Great Seljuk State; It stems from the aim of the newly established Seljuk State to seize new places and to make itself accepted in the Islamic world, in other words, to consolidate its legitimacy. In this context, Atsız Bey and Tutuş, who were assigned by the Seljuk State sultans to conquer the Syria and Palestine region and establish permanent dominance there, not only conquered the region and laid the foundations of the Syrian Seljuk State, but also put an end to the Egyptian Fatimids' domination of the region. Although the Seljuk dominance in Syria and Palestine lost its power after the death of Sultan Melikşah, it could not prevent the Turks from staying here for centuries and making them their homeland.
