Synopsis

The Early Republican period is a period that aims to build a modern state and society on the basis of the nation-state. In this period, the political centre aimed to intervene, change and transform many areas with a strong centralist approach and the idea of statism in order to build the modern state. This aim is on the one hand aimed at the state’s adoption of an identity with modern forms and on the other hand aimed at the establishment of a social structure that modernises, develops and adopts the philosophy of the Republic. In order to realise this aim, the founding cadres of the Republic adopted an approach that placed the state at the centre and regarded it as the main actor. It should be emphasised that the state took a central place in this period because for the founders of the republic, social dynamics did not have the capacity to carry out modernisation, industrialisation and development. Therefore, the state should have a say in every field. The idea of statism, as the most important carrier of this approach, has a very comprehensive content. In this period, the state became a powerful actor both to build the nation-state and society on modern foundations and to realise industrialisation and development. Especially the aim of the state to intervene in a wide area as a powerful actor played an important role in the acceptance of the idea of statism. In this context, it is assumed that the idea of statism in the Early Republican period had a political economy content. In the Early Republican period, the Kadro Movement played an important role in the transformation of the political, administrative, economic, social and cultural sphere. This approach is considered meaningful for understanding the many dimensions of the idea of statism in the Early Republican period.
