Interest of Secondary School Students in Sarıkamış towards Physical Education and Sports
Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine the attitudes of students who take physical education lessons in secondary education towards physical education and sports in order to gain an active life habit.
Materyal and Metod: A descriptive cluster model was used in the research. The population of the research consisted of students in Kars, and the sample of the research consisted of secondary education students in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades studying at Imam Hatip, Tourism, Health, high school, Anatolian, METEM and Sports High Schools. 316 female and 223 male students were included in the study and all of the participants voluntarily participated in the study. Demographic data in the study were collected with the personal information form prepared by the researcher. In order to measure the positive and negative attitudes of the students towards physical education and sports, the Attitude Scale towards Physical Education and Sports (BESİTO) developed by Deliceoğlu (2018) was used. The obtained data were evaluated in computer environment using SPSS 22.0 statistical program. Kolmogorov Smirnov test was performed to determine whether the data showed a normal distribution. Mann-Whitney U test was used for pairwise group comparisons, and Kruskal Wallis test was used for comparisons of three or more groups.
Results: As a result of the study, it was seen that the gender and school variable of high school students in terms of BESITÖ behavioral dimension were important in terms of attitudes towards physical education and sports lessons. However, it was determined that there were no significant variables in terms of BESITÖ behavioral dimension of the students, age, class, monthly income, parental education status, and attitude towards physical education and sports lessons.
Conclusion: In the study, the effects that the gender and school variable will affect the attitudes of high school students towards physical education and sports lessons, but age, class, monthly income, mother and father education period will not affect the attitudes of high school students towards physical education and sports lessons.
