Synopsis

The difficulties experienced by individuals with special needs in their general development areas can limit their expression of their interests and needs. This may cause them to exhibit inappropriate behavior and reduce their quality of life. In order to eliminate the difficulties and negativities that individuals experience due to their inadequacies, some scientifically based practices are recommended through international organizations. One of the most important of these practices is adapted physical education and sports. The concept of adapted physical education and sports is a rehabilitation tool that facilitates the participation of these individuals in physical education and sports activities with the dynamics it contains and at the same time supports their development areas. It plays an important role in helping individuals with special needs become self-sufficient individuals. In this regard, in addition to organizing activities that include adapted physical education and sports activities for individuals with special needs, it is important to design exemplary documents for families, teachers, trainers and expert staff so that these individuals can benefit from effectively adapted physical education and sports activities. In this section, adapted physical education and sports are discussed under different headings.
