Synopsis

Management strategy to protect the environment and increase organizational performance can be achieved with green supply chain management. Green supply chain management is the basic strategy of businesses that will enable them to achieve higher levels of profit and at the same time reduce the risk level of business operations.

Green supply chain is a management approach that includes strategic processes and resources that effectively protect business resources. It is the management of internal and external management linked to the downstream and upstream supply chains that reduces adverse flows and protects the environment. It is the collaboration between manufacturer/supplier, distributor and end consumer that reflects the vital relationship between downstream and upstream. In this context, organizations need to implement social and environmental protection practices in material handling and purchasing, which are almost the same as the green supply chain.

Businesses now have to improve their system design and structure with greener supply chain management in order to increase efficiency, improve innovation, creativity and competitive advantage. Economic growth increases energy and material consumption, which contributes to environmental problems and resource depletion problems.  Balancing economic and environmental performance has become increasingly important for businesses facing competitive, regulatory and societal pressures.
