Synopsis

Participation in physical activity, whether at the elite or amateur level, is enjoyable and enticing. As participants witness their own progress and accomplishments, they take pleasure in working towards being better each time. Sport psychology is viewed as a discipline that aims to examine, explain, and guide the behaviors of athletes within this process. This section specifically aims to theoretically explain the personalities of individuals participating in physical activity. In the 21st century, as efforts are made to enhance the contribution of sport psychology to performance, it is emphasized that it goes beyond theory and becomes a part of practical application (Türkay and Demir, 2021). Therefore, it is believed that continuing physical activity, preparing for competition as an elite athlete, and developing skills to address problems during activity or competition can be achieved through the practical impact of sport psychology. Accurate analyses, a lengthy process, relationships, and both positive and negative experiences determine the level of psychological skills expected to develop in athletes. This section discusses the concept of personality, perhaps considered the beginning of sport psychology, which is essential to understand, develop, and enhance athletes for improved performance. Personality represents an individual's true self-expression. In sport psychology, analyzing the athlete's personality accurately and planning interventions accordingly can support their development. Personality is thought to have a positive effect on performance in the sports environment.
