Synopsis

Cultural routes, emphasizing historical, artistic, and cultural sites, have gained significance through the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Program. These routes aim to introduce and preserve cultural heritage by uniting them on thematic paths, offering visitors a meaningful and intrinsic experience. With a focus on exploring diverse cultural landscapes and providing an opportunity to deepen understanding of local heritage and traditions, the program has become a vital tool. Turkey, having gained member status in the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Program under the Extended Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes on January 15, 2018, is represented by nine routes within the program. This study aims to conduct a general evaluation based on data obtained from literature reviews regarding the routes through which Turkey is represented in the program. The work includes comprehensive information, maps, and tables related to the nine routes in which Turkey is involved. It concludes with recommendations to enhance Turkey's representation in the program. Recognizing the advantages it offers to member countries in terms of sustainable tourism and local economic development, the study underscores the importance of promoting awareness of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe Program among stakeholders such as public institutions, civil society organizations, universities, and local communities.
