Synopsis
Today, interest in procedures in many medical fields has increased due to aesthetic and functional concerns. Factors such as media influence, aging, and childbirth direct women to surgery in genital aesthetics, especially because of discomfort experienced during sexual activity. Female genital aesthetic surgery is becoming a sub-branch of gynecology with the increasing interest of women in these operations. In this section, the most common surgical procedures such as labiaplasty (labia minora aesthetics), clitoral hood reduction, fat injection and filler applications for augmenting the labia majora, as well as vaginoplasty and perineoplasty targeting postpartum changes, are discussed in detail. Each of these procedures has its own specific benefits and risks. When deciding on surgery, it is very important to correctly understand the patient’s motivations and expectations, to perform psychological evaluation, and to obtain informed consent. This section emphasizes current approaches in this field and underlines the importance of surgeons determining the safest and most appropriate treatment method for their patients.
