Synopsis

Abaza literature possesses a rich heritage that reflects the cultural and artistic dimensions of the language. This textbook has been designed to contribute to the development of students’ literary knowledge as well as their language proficiency. This textbook, which approaches contemporary Abaza literature from a bilingual perspective, aims to develop students’ literary knowledge and language skills simultaneously. Within this framework, the book serves as a comprehensive resource for introducing Abaza literature, offering content that ranges from fundamental literary terms to textual analyses. The bilingual modern Abaza literature textbook introduces students to core concepts and terminology in literary studies, including the types and forms of literary works, literary style, literary themes, literary titles, literary ideas, and the characters of literary works. Several chapters of the book are dedicated to the historical development of Abaza literature. The textbook is primarily intended as an introductory guide to Abaza literature. Its objective is to enhance students’ oral and written literary expression while providing foundational knowledge about the development of Abaza literature. The book includes original prose works by twenty-four of the most well-known Abaza authors. The texts have been adapted; some are presented in shortened form, while others are provided as excerpts. The length of the literary texts ranges between 120 and 200 words. These texts are designed to meet several criteria, including text structure, style, genre, clarity in conveying the literary idea, the inclusion of ready-made communicative forms, and the reflection of Abaza national identity and lifestyle. Questions accompanying the texts are intended to reinforce the vocabulary and linguistic expressions acquired by students. The book is illustrated to facilitate comprehension and engagement with the material. All texts and exercises are accompanied by Turkish translations. This textbook is designed for undergraduate students in the Department of Abaza Language and Literature.
