Synopsis

This study examines the intergenerational transformation of political participation in the context of gender. Women’s participation in political life is one of the fundamental indicators of democratization processes; however, this participation has historically been shaped by gender roles, political culture, and socioeconomic conditions. The study is designed as a qualitative literature analysis and is based on a comparative examination of national and international academic research. The analysis is conducted along three axes: political socialization processes, gender roles, and the effects of generational differences on political participation.

The findings indicate that women’s participation in the Silent and Baby Boomer generations was largely limited to voting, whereas organizational participation and social awareness increased among Generation X and Generation Y. In Generation Z, by contrast, the impact of digitalization has led to the rise of online political activism. Digital platforms provide women with opportunities for public visibility, solidarity, and political influence. However, risks such as online violence, cyber harassment, and the digital divide create new barriers to participation. The study demonstrates that while digitalization serves as a factor that strengthens women’s political participation, it does not automatically produce transformation in terms of gender equality.

In conclusion, understanding the intergenerational transformation of political participation requires the joint consideration of not only technological developments but also cultural and structural equality policies. In this context, supporting digital tools with education and awareness programs can contribute to the inclusive restructuring of democratic processes.
