Synopsis

Reproductive health is a fundamental human right that encompasses not merely the absence of disease or disability, but a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Family planning is an integral component of reproductive health, encompassing the knowledge, services, and methods that enable individuals to have children at the time and in the number they desire. In this context, midwives play a key role in improving maternal, infant, and community health by providing pre-pregnancy counseling, antenatal and postnatal care, counseling on birth control methods, and sexual health education. The role of midwives is not limited to clinical practice; it also includes education, counseling, advocacy, and research. Through community-based work, they contribute to the prevention of unwanted pregnancies and support individuals in making informed and rights-based decisions. They also contribute to reducing health inequalities by providing culturally sensitive services to vulnerable populations such as migrants and disadvantaged groups. Within the scope of current approaches, digital health applications and innovative training models are increasing the service delivery capacity of midwives. In conclusion, the multifaceted roles of midwives are critical for strengthening sustainable health systems, reducing maternal and infant mortality, and improving community health.
