Synopsis

The examination of figures reported in financial statements using various techniques is referred to as financial analysis. Multiple methods are employed in the analysis of financial statements. In this study, the financial statements of firms operating in the Construction and Public Works sector listed on Borsa İstanbul (BIST) were evaluated using ratio analysis, one of the financial analysis methods. The analysis covers the period 2020–2024, and the financial data of a total of eight firms were included in the sample. Within the scope of ratio analysis, the following ratios were calculated for the sampled firms: liquidity ratios, including the current ratio, acid-test ratio, and cash ratio; capital structure ratios, namely the leverage ratio and debt-to-equity ratio; activity ratios, including accounts receivable turnover, inventory turnover, and trade payables turnover; and profitability ratios, comprising return on assets, return on equity, and net profit margin.

The ratios derived from the firms’ financial statements were evaluated through comparison with sector average values. The findings indicate that, while detailed firm-level results were obtained, the firms included in the study generally exhibit a relatively low capacity to meet their short-term liabilities. In addition, it was observed that firms tend to rely more heavily on equity financing when funding their assets and that the efficiency of their activity ratios is relatively low. Furthermore, it was determined that the majority of the examined companies report profitability ratios above the sector average.
