Synopsis

Especially in developing countries, the number of people living in rural areas and working in the agricultural sector is aging, and there is a decrease in the participation of young people in agriculture. The main aim of this study is to systematically examine the literature on the tendency of young people living in rural areas to remain in agriculture and the factors affecting these tendencies. The main material of this study is the relevant literature, theses, reports, and statistics, and the method is a systematic literature review approach. The literature shows that the tendency of young people living in rural areas to remain in agriculture is generally low. Factor analysis, probit, and logistic regression methods were used in the analysis of the factors affecting the tendency of young people to remain in agriculture. The relevant literature shows that the tendency of rural youth to stay in or leave agriculture is multidimensional and that this tendency is affected by socio-demographic, structural, economic, institutional, and environmental factors. In order to retain rural youth in rural areas and the agricultural sector; it is necessary to provide young people with sufficient vocational training, entrepreneurship, information and communication technology, organization, etc., and to provide them with land, machinery-equipment, financing, organization, entrepreneurship, etc. It is deemed necessary to provide the required support for the acquisition of technologies, to improve socio-cultural, economic and physical infrastructure in rural areas, and to diversify and increase investments.
