Comparison of Qualities of Competent and Virtuous Human in Türkiye Century Education Model and Kutadgu Bilig Work

Synopsis
The aim of the current study is to compare the qualities of the "Competent and Virtuous Person" in the “Türkiye Century Education Model, Curriculum Common Text (2024)” which aims to cultivate today's youth into virtuous and competent individuals with those in Kutadgu Bilig, a work written centuries ago that offers advice to rulers based on competencies and virtues. In this context, document review, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The data sources of the study were the work titled Kutadgu Bilig written by Yusuf Has Hacib and the Türkiye Century Education Model, Common Text of Curriculum (2024). The data were analyzed using descriptive and content analysis methods. First, the profile features and their components in the “Student Profile, Competent and Virtuous Person” section of the “Türkiye Century Education Model, Curriculum Common Text” were tabulated and created. Based on these criteria, each couplet in the Kutadgu Bilig work was evaluated. Then, the number of couplets containing features of the components of this profile, along with each student profile, was arranged in a table. Additionally, some of the data obtained from the work were presented directly as couplets without any modifications. As a result of the data analysis, it was determined that the features of the competent and virtuous person in the Kutadgu Bilig work and the components in the “Competent and Virtuous Person” profile in the Education Model overlap with each other. In terms of differences, while the competencies and virtues that administrators and statesmen should possess are emphasized with a more traditional and religious basis in Kutadgu Bilig, it was observed that the multifaceted development of each individual, within the framework of contemporary thought regarding virtues and competencies, is emphasized in the Education Model. In general, it has been determined that Kutadgu Bilig will maintain its relevance in terms of content even after many years.
