Synopsis

This chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of migration in the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), examining demographic, economic, political, and security-related dimensions. It begins by outlining the overall migration landscape in OTS countries, including demographic trends, migration flows, regional migration pressures, and labor mobility. The chapter also evaluates the organization’s emerging cooperation frameworks, focusing on common policy documents, irregular migration management, border security, and humanitarian assistance. The second part explores the link between migration and regional security, with particular attention to migration movements originating from Afghanistan, population shifts related to the Russia–Ukraine conflict, and the growing risks of climate-induced migration in Central Asia. The subsequent section presents forward-looking projections and scenarios, discussing institutional deepening, the potential establishment of a common migration agency, digital migration management tools, and anticipated migration trends for the 2030-2050 period. Overall, the chapter argues that while the OTS is steadily developing greater coordination capacity in migration governance, regional dynamics continue to pose both opportunities and structural challenges for its member states.
