Synopsis

There are many definitions of migration and related concepts. This section aims to present the fundamental definitions of migration by examining the phenomenon of migration within its conceptual framework, types, and causes. While migration is generally defined as the movement of individuals or communities from one settlement area to another, it cannot be considered solely as spatial mobility. Throughout history, many factors such as wars, natural disasters, economic deficiencies, and political pressures have triggered migration movements; the form and nature of migration have changed depending on the social, economic, and technological conditions of the period. In this respect, migration is a multi-dimensional social process that produces social, cultural, economic, and demographic consequences. The universality of migration has led many disciplines, such as sociology, economics, political science, geography, and anthropology, to examine migration from different perspectives. The decision to migrate is often based on dissatisfaction with the conditions in which individuals live and the desire to achieve better living standards. The migration process creates reciprocal interactions between the migrant and the source and destination societies, bringing issues such as adaptation, identity, and belonging to the forefront. Migration; Migration is classified according to its geographical scope as internal and external migration, according to its duration as temporary and permanent migration, according to its legal status as regular and irregular migration, and according to the will of the individuals involved as voluntary, forced, and exchange migration. This diversity reveals that the phenomenon of migration does not exhibit a uniform structure. The reasons for migration are shaped within the framework of economic, social, political, and environmental factors; in particular, economic inequalities, political instability, and in recent years, environm.
