Synopsis

Cervical cancer remains a significant threat to women's health due to high mortality and morbidity rates, necessitating the reinforcement of prevention strategies. Primary and secondary prevention approaches are instrumental in combating this cancer. Within the scope of primary prevention, educational and awareness initiatives aimed at reducing risk factors, promoting safe sexual behaviors, and fostering healthy lifestyle habits are paramount. Given that HPV is the most critical etiological factor, interventions focusing on information dissemination regarding transmission, limitation of high-risk sexual behaviors, and increasing HPV vaccination rates are of vital importance. In terms of secondary prevention, the primary objectives include informing women about cervical cancer screening programs, ensuring equity and justice in access to screening services. In recent years, innovative approaches such as self-sampling HPV methods and urine-based HPV tests have demonstrated the potential to enhance screening participation. Furthermore, the integration of artificial intelligence-supported digital applications in screening processes has been found feasible and reliable across numerous studies. Research identifying the vaginal microbiota also contributes to the early prevention of precancerous lesions and cervical cancer. To reduce disparities and barriers to access in cervical cancer screening, the widespread adoption of these innovative methods is recommended. Continuously updating these preventive interventions in line with evidence-based approaches will provide an effective and sustainable strategy in the fight against cervical cancer.
