Synopsis
The word “destination” encompasses many meanings as a concept, and it is not entirely possible to provide a standard definition. In general terms, it is defined as the place someone goes to, or the place where something is sent or received, as well as a required reason for making a special journey. A tourism destination, on the other hand, refers to a region frequently visited by tourists, an area showcasing natural or cultural sites, historical significance, natural or man-made attractions, entertainment venues, places of worship, and locations where tourists can visit and stay, such as a culturally and naturally rich country, city, town, village, etc. This study examined the Province of Manisa as a case study of a tourist destination. Manisa is located in the inner western part of the Aegean Region. Although Manisa is rich in natural and human tourism resources, tourism activities have not developed well yet. The primary factor preventing tourism development is the lack of awareness regarding Manisa’s tourism potential. Other factors include insufficient promotion and investment, deficiencies in accommodation facilities, and inadequacies in transportation and accessibility. The values obtained regarding the tourism characteristics of the research area are qualitative in nature as there has been no institution capable of keeping the record of quantitative data. The reason for this is that the assets with tourism value in Manisa have not yet been integrated into tourism.
