Synopsis

The recovery and determination of linear alkyl benzene sulphonate (LABS), which is an anionic surfactant widely preferred in cleaning products and the needs arising with industrial advances and increasing population density, with accurate and reliable methods is of great importance. For this reason, the recovery of LABS component with adsorbents (silica gel, activated carbon, resin and XAD-7) was investigated within the scope of the study.  For this reason, the recovery of LABS component with adsorbents (silica gel, activated carbon, resin and XAD-7) was investigated within the scope of the study. It was determined that activated carbon showed the best performance in LABS recovery and the studies were carried out on activated carbon. The effects of critical adsorption parameters, including pH, adsorbent amount, and time, were evaluated to determine the optimum conditions. LABS recovery measurements were carried out under optimal conditions using activated carbon, UV, and HPLC methods, yielding recovery rates of 95%–97%, respectively. This study provides important new information on the factors controlling the adsorption process of activated carbon for LABS recovery. This information will be useful in the development of feasible and efficient adsorption-based wastewater treatment techniques.
