Synopsis
Environmental pollution, climate change, and industrial impacts hinder sustainable development and require environmentally friendly policies. In Türkiye, green finance and green hospital standards in healthcare have gained importance, but their adequacy and implementation remain debated. This study evaluates developments in green finance and green hospital practices in Türkiye, examines the relationship between sustainable healthcare and green finance, and aims to provide improvement suggestions. A literature review was conducted, analyzing national and international studies on sustainability, green finance, green bonds, and green hospitals. Green finance plays a significant role in supporting environmentally friendly projects against climate change and attracts growing investor interest. Green hospital practices reduce environmental harm, save energy and water, improve waste management, enhance service quality, and contribute to patient satisfaction. In public hospitals in Trabzon, overall compliance with green standards was 70.9%, highest in environmental management (90.7%) and lowest in material management (38.1%). Comparing green hospital certification systems revealed that hospitals are certified based on environmental and functional performance. Managerial interviews showed positive attitudes toward green hospitals but identified gaps in implementation knowledge. Wider adoption of green finance tools and expansion of sustainable healthcare practices are needed. Although green hospital practices are not yet widespread in Türkiye, awareness is increasing. Implementing environmentally friendly health policies is crucial for environmental sustainability and healthcare quality.
