Synopsis
Despite significant improvements in health indicators in Türkiye over the past twenty years, marked inequalities persist in health outcomes and access to health services, based on income, gender, education, and age. These inequalities directly affect not only the performance of the health system but also individuals' economic productivity, welfare levels, and life opportunities. The heterogeneity of determinants of health at the individual level necessitates understanding the microfoundations of inequalities. In this context, this book chapter explains the microeconomic determinants of health inequalities and their causes with examples from the literature.
