Current Approaches in The Field of Health.
Synopsis
Disasters are extraordinary events that affect large populations, strain healthcare systems, and require urgent, effective, and well-organized healthcare services. In this process, National Medical Rescue Teams (UMKE) play a critical role in the rapid delivery of healthcare services in disaster areas, the organization of medical interventions, patient triage, provision of emergency care adapted to field conditions, and the management of evacuation and referral processes. With their trained personnel, logistical capacity, and disaster management experience, UMKE teams reach the scene in the shortest possible time, perform life-saving interventions, and contribute to maintaining the functioning of the healthcare system. This chapter discusses the founding purpose, organizational structure, duties and responsibilities of UMKE, intervention approaches according to disaster types, and challenges encountered in the field; and evaluates its effectiveness in light of the literature and field practices. In addition, the strategic importance of UMKE in terms of disaster preparedness, training, coordination, and sustainable capacity building is emphasized.
