Synopsis

The literature on cryptocurrency and digital asset markets reveals that this field exhibits an extremely multidimensional view in terms of regulatory decisions, market reactions, crisis periods and institutional structures. The findings indicate that while regulatory interventions have an impact on trading volume, prices, and investor behavior, this impact is not necessarily in the same direction. In some cases, restrictive decisions lead to contraction in local markets, shift transactions to other countries, and reshape price dynamics on a global scale. In contrast, some studies suggest that regulations do not have as strong an impact on investor flight or trading volume as previously thought. Research focusing on crisis periods reveals that volatility has increased in digital asset markets, bubble behavior has become evident in some crypto assets, but the same trend has not been seen in fixed-value assets. This suggests that crypto assets do not show a homogeneous structure in terms of risk and price stability. The literature also emphasizes that significant legal and accounting uncertainties persist, and that crypto assets cannot be easily placed in a single legal or accounting category. While decentralized finance and blockchain-based structures offer advantages such as financial access, low cost and transparency; It also carries serious risks such as security vulnerabilities, legal gaps and audit problems. Cross-country comparisons show that regulatory approaches to crypto assets are highly divergent, with supportive policies being able to drive adoption while overly restrictive approaches can limit the capacity for innovation. In conclusion, the literature clearly highlights the need for balanced regulation in crypto markets that combines legal clarity, investor protection, market security, and international compliance.
