Synopsis

The earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş in 2023 caused significant destruction in the Islahiye district of Gaziantep and highlighted the urgent need for earthquake-resistant buildings in the region. This study aims to discuss sustainable and earthquake-resilient building design approaches by considering the geological characteristics of Islahiye, the typology of existing buildings, and the use of local construction materials.
