Energy and Technology
Synopsis
Energy and technology are in a cyclical relationship that feeds each other; While technology provides efficient production, storage and transmission of energy, energy is the main source for the operation of technological devices. Smart systems and renewable energy technologies play a critical role for a sustainable future by increasing energy efficiency. The first part of this book describes the conceptual and theoretical framework of energy and technology. The second section provides an overview of energy and technological developments worldwide and in Türkiye. In the third chapter, it is aimed to examine the subject by obtaining relevant econometric results and to interpret and evaluate it with the support of current literature. In the third section, the relationship between technology and energy in Türkiye in the 1996-2022 period was examined using the Granger Causality Test methods developed by Granger (1969). According to the results, it was concluded that there is causality from patent applications, research and development expenditures, economic growth and medium and high technology exports to Renewable energy production. Bidirectional causality was obtained from trade openness to renewable energy production and from renewable energy production to trade openness.
