Synopsis

Evidence-based practices are among the most important approaches supporting safe and high-quality care in normal birth management by prioritizing the physiological needs of both mother and baby. Conducted within the framework of woman-centered care, these practices aim to reduce unnecessary obstetric interventions, preserve the physiological course of labor, improve intrapartum management, and strengthen mother–infant bonding. Scientific evidence indicates that continuous midwifery support during labor increases maternal satisfaction, positively affects neonatal Apgar scores, and facilitates postpartum adaptation. Furthermore, supporting early breastfeeding, teaching appropriate breastfeeding techniques, and strengthening mother–infant interaction contribute significantly to postpartum well-being.

Non-pharmacological methods used in labor pain management enhance women’s comfort and promote a more positive birth experience while also reducing fear and anxiety related to childbirth. The continuous support care model provided by experienced midwives is considered one of the fundamental components of safe, respectful, and individualized maternity care. Effective implementation of evidence-based practices in childbirth care contributes positively to women’s perceptions of normal birth. Therefore, informing and encouraging pregnant women about these practices and ensuring continuous support from a midwife or birth companion during labor are of great importance. Such supportive care not only improves maternal satisfaction but also contributes to better maternal and neonatal outcomes.
