Synopsis
“Töreli (normative)”, as a cultural system reflecting a society's shared values and ethical behaviors, refers to the behavioral patterns adopted by society in many areas, from education and the arts, from consumption to production, and from financial transactions to insurance. In this context, the insurance sector stands out as a significant service area. Developed in line with Islamic sensitivities, microtakaful offers an alternative to traditional insurance, offering significant potential for increasing social welfare, preserving Islamic values, promoting economic growth, and alleviating poverty. Microtakaful aims to protect low-income individuals against risks and, in line with the principles of social assistance and solidarity, can be supported by Islamic financing instruments such as qard al-Hasan, zakat, and waqf (endowment). This study examines the concepts of takaful and microtakaful, assessing their differences from traditional insurance systems and their social and economic impacts. It emphasizes that the expansion of such systems in Turkey and globally offers significant opportunities for economic growth and social development. The study aims to guide policy makers and the sector regarding microtakaful applications.
