Synopsis
It has become a scientific fact that sports performance is directly related not only to physical competence and technical-tactical competence, but also to psychological endurance and mental skills. In this context, psychological skill training (PST) applied to improve the mental processes of athletes; It is supported by basic techniques such as goal setting, imagery, relaxation and inner speech. The techniques in question; It has been demonstrated by experimental studies in various sports branches that it makes significant contributions in areas such as increasing motivation, reducing anxiety, strengthening self-confidence and improving the level of focus. When the researches on the subject were examined, it was seen that these techniques, which are applied especially in individual and team sports such as football, tennis, golf, swimming and horse riding, provided a significant improvement on both psychological resilience and performance components. Based on all these, basic psychological skills and development methods in sports have been tried to be examined in the present section.
