Synopsis

Hermeneutics emerged as a method for understanding sacred texts, but in modern times it has come to encompass all forms of texts. It is considered as a method for interpreting and understanding a text. Hermeneutics is a teaching that aims to understand man himself, those around him, the period in which he lived or the periods before him, and many other elements such as texts or works of art created in these periods. The question of which basic concept should be placed at the center of understanding with the hermeneutic project has led to the emergence of many different interpretations. Concepts such as author, text, language, culture, ideology and symbol have been treated as keys to help us truly understand a text or a work. In this short study of contrasting views on understanding, the focal points of hermeneutics are touched upon.
