Synopsis
Traumatic brain injury is a serious cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Following the injury, significant metabolic changes occur due to the excessive production of endogenous catabolic hormones. Nutritional requirements vary according to the severity of the trauma and the stage of the disease. Starting nutrition in a timely manner and meeting individualized nutritional needs can prevent malnutrition. In addition, nutrition plays a crucial role in neuronal recovery and directly affects prognosis by influencing neuronal plasticity. The early inclusion of nutritional support as part of comprehensive care is key to recovery and better outcomes. The optimization of intracerebral pressure through a multidisciplinary approach enhances the response to nutrition by reducing secondary damage.
