Synopsis

The changing world order makes it increasingly difficult for businesses to compete. Businesses have to exhibit flexible, efficient and innovative policies under the influence of factors such as globalisation, digital transformation and uncertainty. In this challenging competitive environment, supply chain management has become a critical process ranging from operational efficiency to customer satisfaction in order for businesses to gain a sustainable advantage. Supplier selection, which is one of the strategic stages of supply chain management, directly affects the long-term objectives as well as optimising the activities of the enterprises such as cost, quality and delivery time. Supplier selection is a problem that needs to be carried out comprehensively among multiple criteria and alternatives. Multi-criteria decision making methods are used to solve such complex problems where there are criteria and alternatives that need to be evaluated simultaneously. In this study, a ready-mixed concrete supplier selection problem for a construction company is analysed using FUCOM based WEDBA multi-criteria decision making methods. Supplier selection was carried out within the scope of selecting a company among 5 companies within the framework of cost, quality, delivery time, technical competence, company reputation, location, quality certificate and reference criteria. Decision makers in the company consist of 4 people, 1 project manager, 1 assistant project manager, 1 civil engineer and 1 financial affairs specialist. According to the results obtained with the FUCOM method, the quality criterion was determined as the criterion with the highest importance. Among the five alternative firms, alternative A5 ranked first as the best alternative.
