Synopsis

Abortion is defined as "the expulsion of all or part of the embryo or fetus and its associated tissues from the uterus before the 20th week of gestation or when the embryo or fetus weighs less than 500 grams." Abortion can have both physical and psychological effects on women’s health. This study addresses the classification of abortion, its causes, post-abortion complications, and the importance of midwifery care.

Abortions are categorized into various types, including spontaneous, habitual, septic, and induced abortions. Following abortion, women may experience physical issues such as bleeding, infection, and pain, as well as psychological challenges such as grief, depression, and anxiety. Midwifery care plays a crucial role in protecting and supporting women's health after abortion. During this period, midwives assist in the healing process by providing both physical and emotional support.

In addition, post-abortion counseling services help women cope with the experience in a healthier manner. Studies have shown that women who receive counseling after abortion report decreased levels of depression and anxiety. In conclusion, midwifery care during and after abortion plays a fundamental role in safeguarding women’s health and enhancing their quality of life. The support provided by midwives contributes significantly to the prevention of complications and the acceleration of the recovery process.
