Synopsis
This study aims to explore the role of sport in fostering social integration at both individual and societal levels. Social integration is closely linked to increased interaction between diverse social groups, a sense of belonging, and the development of social cohesion. Sport, with its structured nature, participatory processes based on common goals, and potential for shaping collective identity, is considered a powerful facilitator of these dynamics. Employing thematic analysis, the study examines the integrative effects of sport—ranging from personal gains such as enhanced self-confidence, improved social skills, and expanded networks, to societal impacts including intercultural dialogue, reduction of social exclusion, and inclusion of marginalized groups. Findings suggest that sport functions not merely as a physical activity, but as a dynamic social domain that promotes inclusivity and solidarity. Moreover, sport-based social policies are shown to offer effective tools for integrating disadvantaged populations into society. Within this framework, the study discusses the unique role of sport in strengthening social capital, supporting cultural diversity, and enhancing societal cohesion, grounded in both literature and relevant case examples.
