Syndromes in Chest Diseases
Synopsis
The term syndrome, originating from French, refers to a set of symptoms that characterize a disease and occur simultaneously, or to the totality of clinical signs associated with a specific disease.
The first work entitled Syndromes in Pulmonology was written in 1970 by our late professor, Prof. Dr. Necdet Menemenli, and its second edition was published in 1977. We also observed that the second work on this subject was contributed to Turkish medicine in 2000 by our esteemed professor, Prof. Dr. Numan Ekim.
The rapid advances in medicine and the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic methods led us to conclude, after 25 years, that there was a need for an updated publication on this topic.
Under the title Syndromes in Pulmonary Diseases, we compiled the syndromes by researching various sources, the literature, and online data. The syndromes were written in alphabetical order. A total of 23 authors divided the work among ourselves to prepare this book.
Our greatest wish is that our book will be useful not only to our colleagues working in the field of pulmonology but also to physicians in other specialties and to medical students. While expressing our gratitude to all who contributed to our book at every stage, we remember with love and respect all our professors who inspired us to love the field of pulmonology and instilled in us the enthusiasm to work.
