Synopsis

Digital technologies have initiated a significant transformation across all clinical processes in pediatric dentistry, from diagnosis to treatment. Digital workflows enabled by intraoral scanners, computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems, and three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies offer substantial advantages by overcoming the limitations of conventional methods. Cooperation difficulties and anatomical constraints associated with conventional impression techniques in pediatric patients have been largely addressed with intraoral scanners; studies have shown that digital impressions are superior in terms of both patient tolerance and measurement accuracy. The personalized digital manufacturing of space maintainers, prostheses, and restorations provides clinical benefits such as improved biocompatibility, better marginal adaptation, and reduced production time. In endodontic treatments, digital planning supported by cone-beam computed tomography and 3D printing technologies enables the creation of guiding templates, offering safer access in cases with complex anatomical variations. Meanwhile, in regenerative endodontics, 3D bioprinters contribute to the development of personalized treatments based on tissue engineering. All these advancements highlight the potential for digital technologies to be integrated into clinical standards in pediatric dentistry. However, the sustainability of this transformation will depend on strategic steps to ensure cost-effective solutions, infrastructure compatibility, and comprehensive user training.
