International Güçlükonak (Basa) Symposium Abstracts Book
Synopsis
The district of Güçlükonak in Şırnak possesses a deep-rooted past with its historical fabric, cultural heritage, natural beauties, and its people. However, this richness has not been sufficiently addressed in scientific studies up to the present, and therefore its promotion has remained limited. To understand the spirit of a city, it is necessary to examine its history, culture, scholars it has raised, architectural works, literature, art, folklore—in short, its material and spiritual values. There are some cities that come to the fore with the personalities and places that give them a soul. In Güçlükonak as well, scholars such as Muhammed Said Ramazan al-Buti, Seyyid Ali Findikî, Seyyid Feyzullah Erzen, Molla Muhammed al-Zivingî, and Molla Ahmed al-Zivingî have endowed the district with a distinct identity. In addition, historical sites such as the Finik Ruins, the Fekiyê Teyran Madrasa, the town of Findik, Zivinga Şikakan, and Zivinga Hecîelîyan are also among the elements shaping the memory of the district. At the international symposium organized in Güçlükonak, academics from various disciplines evaluated the district from many perspectives such as history, economy, education, social life, religious life, scholarly figures, and tourism. The work in your hands has been formed by bringing together the papers presented at the symposium and is offered to the readers.
