Synopsis
Voice performance is a discipline within contemporary education programs. Local and international songs are performed in individual and collective vocal performance workshops conducted in the music programs of art institutions. The artistic value of the selected songs and the composers' approaches are examined from the perspective of musicology and music history, as well as the types and styles of vocal performance used in their performance. Today, in addition to internationally advanced vocal performance techniques, a wide variety of singing styles are pursued in line with the cultural formations of individuals and societies.
The purpose of this study is to examine selected examples of songs by Turkish composer Neveser Kökdeş in vocal performance and to raise the issue of their evaluation from a national and international perspective. In selecting this study topic, special attention was paid to its originality by examining the relationship between the fields of "Music Science," which deals with the scientific foundations of the art of music, and "Voice Performance." For this purpose, the selected works contribute to the achievement of the target behaviors in repertoire courses and, in this context, to the enrichment of the relevant repertoire. This study highlights the importance of evaluating the vocal works of Turkish music composers within the context of their universal dimension in performance.
When viewed from the perspective of our musical history and composers, Neveser Kökdeş has been examined through the musical and technical characteristics reflected in her works as a female composer. In this context, considering the interdisciplinary nature of the "Art of Singing," selected examples of Neveser Kökdeş's songs were evaluated in terms of vocal performance techniques and practices. The necessary data for the study was obtained through a literature review.
Consequently, Neveser Kökdeş's works hold a significant place in the curriculum of national and international art institutions, and, considering the quality of the works, they can be included in vocal performance.
